Alumni Achievements
Guy Bar'ely, BFA 2007
Guy's senior project, a digitally animated short film entitled Cycle, will be screened at the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF) in June 2009, and at New Zealand Film Festival in July. MIAF is the largest and most diverse presenter of animation in Australia. It screens at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image which is a brand new, superb screening facility devoted entirely to celebrating all forms of cinema. MIAF 2009 will run from 22-28 June, 2009.

In 2007, Cycle was screened at Synch Digital Cinema Festival, Greece and received Special Selection honor at 2007 MetroCAF, New York City.

Last year, Cycle was featured on the main page of CG Talk (http://forums.cgsociety.org )
Guy Bar’ely was born in Israel, and graduated in 2007 with a BFA in Digital Arts at Pratt Institute. Guy currently works at Rhythm & Hues Studios in Los Angeles, California.
George Smaragdis, MFA 2008
George's thesis, a digitally animated short film entitled "Scrimshander", has won First Prize at Reynolda Film Festival in the Animation/Experimental category.

Cesar Kuriyama, BFA 2004
Cesar directed a music video for the band Fat City Reprise, which premiered in Philadelphia in December. The technique he used to create this video was recently written about by WIRED Magazine online:

Yuliya Vinokur, BFA 2008
Yuliya's senior capstone project, a digitally animated short entitled Luna Park, won the Best Animation category at the 2008 Coney Island Film Festival.

Luna Park takes place in an imaginary amusement park inhabited by various creatures. Flat backgrounds were modeled to emulate the look and feel of small vaudeville theaters of the early 20th century.

Yuliya's film was also screened in the SIGGRAPH 2008 SpaceTime Student Exhibition in Los Angeles, CA.

Kevin Jones, BFA 2008
Kevin's film have been selected for screening at 2008 ANIMEX, an international festival of animation and computer games in Middlesborough, United Kingdom.

Kevin's Senior Capstone project, a stop motion 2D and 3D animation entitled "Hung Up On a Dream", was also screened in the VFX category of Aniwow!2008, the 3rd International Student Animation Festival.

Jonathan Lee, BFA 2007
Jonathan's senior capstone project, a digitally animated short entitled "Rice Ball Brawl", was screened at the 2008 Animex International Festival of Animation & Computer Games place in Middlesbrough, England. http://www.animex.net/

"Rice Ball Brawl" was also screened at MetroCAF 2007, the fifth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival, in New York City.

Joshue Ott, BFA 1999
New York-based multidisciplinary artist Joshue Ott creates cinematic visual improvisations, often performed live and projected in large scale. Working from hand-drawn forms which he then manipulates with superDraw, a software instrument of his own design, Ott composes evolving images that reside somewhere between minimalism, psychedelia, and Cagean chance. He performs frequently with musicians, sympathetically translating sound to vision to yield immersive multi-sensory experiences that are at once immediate and synergistic. Ott's work has recently been featured in exhibitions at Yuri's Night Bay Area 2008, Paris's Le Cube, the Playgrounds Audiovisual Art Festival in the Netherlands (2007), and the 2006 Ars Electronica Animation Festival. He has performed at Live Cinema Nights: Silver Lake Film Festival, in Los Angeles; as part of the Boston Cyber Arts Festival; and at venues throughout New York City, including Carnegie Hall and the Knitting Factory.

He currently runs Interval Studios, a small web development company specializing in Flash programming and all sorts of wonderful animation. www.intervalstudios.com

Isaiah Palmer, BFA 2008
Isaiah's senior capstone project, a digital animation entitled "McCaw Cycles", will be screened at the 2008 Puchon International Animation Festival (PISAF), November 7-11, South Korea.

McCaw Cycles was recently screened at 2008 Metropolitan Computer Animation Festival (MetroCAF), New York, NY, and at SIGGRAPH 2008 SpaceTime Student Animation Competition, Los Angeles, CA.

Luba Drozd, BFA 2006
Luba 's senior project, a digital animation entitled "Synth", won 1st prize in the stills category of the Movies and Stills competition at Basis gallery in Frankfurt, Germany.

"Synth" was also screened at the 2007 Animex Student Animation Awards and the "Wanna See Our Shorts" 2006 New York Animation Festival. "Synth" depicts a transformation from the cold and mechanical into organic and warm over the duration of time, a process similar to that of observing a person's facade and looking inside past the physical representation.

Sangheon Lee, BFA 2008
Sam's senior capstone project, a digitally animated film entitled "Vacation", was screened at the 2008 Palm Springs International ShortFest, Palm Springs, CA.

Darlene's thesis film, "Rise Sally Rise", was screened at the Reel Sisters Film Festival and Lecture Series, September 24-28, 2008 on the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University.

Erica's work appeared in a Chinese painting exhibition at the Confucius Plaza Community Room in New York City.
Joon Myung Park, MFA 2006
Joon's Thesis project, a short animation entitled "Snow White D'Avignon", was screened at 2006 MetroCAF, the fourth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival in New York City.
Jong Jin Choi, MFA 2006
Jong Jin Choi placed first in the animation category at the ninth annual First Boards Awards in New York City. The First Boards Awards celebrates the international industry’s top emerging talent from a series of categories including director, editor, creative teams, composer, designer, animator and producer. The award show and party is an industry-backed event and takes place annually.

Matthew Trudell, BFA 2006
Matt's Senior Project, a digitally animated short entitled "Too Much to Bear", has received Honorable Mention in the SIGGRAPH 2006 Education Committee SPACE - Time Competition. "Too Much to Bear", was also screened at 2006 MetroCAF, the fourth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival.
Jude Silva, BFA 2006
Jude's animated Senior Project film, "The Turnaround" was screened at 2006 MetroCAF, the fourth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival in New York City.
William Caballero, BFA 2006
Will was accepted to the 2008 Latino Producers Academy, in Santa Fe, New Mexico for his documentary-in-progress "AMERICAN DREAMS DEFERRED".

AMERICAN DREAMS DEFERRED focuses on Will's Puerto Rican-American family living in Fayetteville, NC and their stories of hardship. The LPA will help Will in the development of his documentary, provide networking resources and impart business skills to aid in the promotion of the film. Over 40 different documentaries were entered to LPA and only four were accepted.

Will received First Place in the Fine Art Animation division of the SIGGRAPH 2006 SpaceTime Competition for his senior project "Without Sin", a short film with visual effects inspired by "The Sacrificial Dance", composed by Igor Stravinsky for the ballet "The Rite of Spring". Will re-orchestrated and performed a condensed version of a movement using electric violin, and keyboard.
Purva Mande, MFA 2006
Purva's thesis project "'i' the being" was screened at the Animation Block Party in July 2006.

"'i' the being" was also recently selected for the New York Digital Salon 2006, and will be screened at 2006 MetroCAF in September.

"'i' the being," appeared in FAT: Fusion of Art and Technology. The 2006 exhibition was held in the Conley Gallery in the Department of Art and Design at the California State University in Fresno.FAT was curated by Prof. Edward Gillum and feautured artists from across the nation in an intriguing display of the fusion of art and technology.
Riash Shahnawaz

Riash's Thesis Animation "Institute for the Digitally Challenged" was selected by the Museum of the Moving Image as a national finalist in the animation category in the Student Academy Awards.
Kevi Louis-Johnson, BFA 2006
Kevi's video, Blueroom, was screened in the 4th Annual Reel Venus Film Festival.
Hamid Rahmanian
MFA 1997

Hamid's feature film "Day Break" was featured in the Tribeca Film Festival. The film was also featured in the Indianapolis International Film Festival.

Synopsis:

In Iran, capital punishment is carried out according to Islamic law, which gives the family of the victim ownership of the offender’s life. Day Break - based on a compilation of true stories and shot inside Tehran's century-old prison - revolves around the imminent execution of Mansour, a man found guilty of murder. When the family of the victim repeatedly fails to show up on the appointed day, Mansour’s execution is postponed again and again. Stuck inside the purgatory of his own mind, he waits as time passes on without him, caught between life and death, retribution and forgiveness.

Leah Dixon, BFA 2003
In Spring 2005, Leah and Chris Harvey worked together as a collaborative group called Foolslight and performed live visuals with David Hykes and the Harmonic Choir at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.

Leah's work "TEMPLE: Time Tapestry" has been accepted to the SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery.

In September 2005, "Beautiful Bridge," a digital painting by Dixon, was exhibited outside of the main branch of Brooklyn Public Library near Prospect Park, on the Eastern Parkway side.
Michael DiComo, MFA 1994
Michael has been with Industrial Light and Magic since
1996 where he started as a Technical Director on such
movies as 101 Dalmations, Jurassic Park 2: Lost World, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Star Wars: Episode III.

He served as Sequence Supervisor on Small Soldiers,
Star Wars: Episode 1, Star Wars: Episode 2, and as
C.G. Supervisor for The Hulk, Harry Potter 3, and
War of the Worlds.

Michael is currently the Digital Production Supervisor for the upcoming dragon adventure film entitled Eragon.

In addition to his MFA from Pratt, Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
Jonah Hall, MFA 1995
Jonah works as a Technical Director with Digital Domain. His filmography includes:

Junghwan Sung has been appointed to the faculty as a Professor at the Soong Sil Unversity in Seoul, South Korea.
Jason Kaufman, BFA 2000

Jae Won Chung, MFA 2005
Jae Won's animated short thesis film, The Mirror, was screened at 2005 MetroCAF in New York City in September 2005.

"The Mirror" has also been screened at the 2005 Red Stick International Animation Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Zeitgeist International Film Festival in San Francisco, CA, and the Red Bank International Film Festival in Red Bank, NJ.
David Allen, BFA 2003

Bill Burg, MFA 2004

Bill’s thesis film, Hopeless Romantic, was featured in the 2005 SIGGRAPH Animation Theater. The animated short film was also included in the 2005 Rooftop Films Summer Festival Series in Brooklyn, NY. Hopeless Romantic received an Honorable Mention in the Student Projects Animation Competition & Exhibition (SPACE) category at 2004 SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, CA and was screened at the 2004 MetroCAF event, presented by ACM SIGGRAPH.
Kate Chapman, MFA, 2004
Kate's digital sculpture, entitled Falling Down, was featured in the 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery.
Lori Hammond, MFA 2004
Lori has shown her work nationally & internationally, appearing in SIGGRAPH 2003 and at the first Beijing New Media Exhibition & Symposium 2004. Lori’s thesis, Looking Back in a Cityscape, was screened at the LA International Short Film Festival (LAFest), in September 2004.
Jacquelyn Martino
Jacquelyn Martino chaired the 2008 SIGGRAPH Conference in Los Angeles, CA.

Jacquelyn was also an invited artist/researcher at MIT and served as an advisor for the 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, and as the Courses Chair for 2004 SIGGRAPH. Also in 2004, Jacquelyn served on the Committee on Intellectual Property at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

Jacquelyn received the Director's Grant from the Council for the Arts, MIT in Cambridge, MA, recently exhibited her work at ARCADE in Brighton, England and also had a solo show at Precious in Cambridge, MA.

Kristen Palana, Class of 2002
Kristen’s mixed media animation thesis film, entitled Five O’Clock Shadows, debuted at the 2002 36th New York Exposition of Short Film and Video in New York City, NY.

Also in 2002, Five O’Clock Shadows was selected for screening at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films in Palm Springs, CA.

Kristen’s thesis film was also screened at the 2003 4th DC Independent Film Festival in Washington DC, the 2003 Creative Alliance Film Festival in Baltimore, MD, and the 2003 1st Annual Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City, CA.
Jin Wan Park, MFA 1999
Known at CGIM for his SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater animation "BUG", Jin Wan is now a full time faculty member in Chung-Ang University in his home country, South Korea.

Jin Wan participated in the Sketch Program as well as the Faculty Submitted Student Work section of 2004 SIGGRAPH with "Mosaic for Stackable Objects" (Sketch Program) and 'Realtime Digital Art' (FSSW).

Jin Wan’s work has also been shown recently in seven gallery group exhibitions in South Korea and Singapore. His piece, "The Coinage Project II" was selected for the Epson Digital Color Imaging Contest, December 2004.
Brett Purmal, Class of 2002
Brett recently worked in New Zealand as an Animator for Weta Digital on Peter Jackson's feature film King Kong (2005).

Before leaving New York City to work in New Zealand with Weta Digital, Brett worked as a freelance animator with Psyop and Beetlejuice Productions. Brett also worked as an animator on the independent stop-motion feature, A Buck's Worth, under the direction of Tatia Rosenthal, which has recently been accepted into the Sundance Film Festival.
Alex Scott, Class of 2001
With the Deja Food group, Alex has completed animations for the Science Channel program “100 Greatest Discoveries”, airing Wednesday evenings at 8pm.

Alex is currently working as a full time 3D animator for Interface Media Group (www.interfacevideo.com) in Washington, D.C.
Seval Dulgeroglu Yavuz, MFA, MS, Ph.D.
In October 2004, Seval was appointed as the chair of the newly established Graphic Design department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Mustafa Kemal University in Hatay, Turkey. She is currently in the process of developing departmental curriculum and hiring new faculty members.
