Sam Lee, BFA 2008
Sam's senior capstone project, a digitally animated film entitled Vacation, will be screened at the 2008 Palm Springs International ShortFest, August 21-27, Palm Springs, CA. Palm Springs International ShortFest (http://www.psfilmfest.org/) is renowned worldwide for the extraordinary community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. ShortFest 2008 will present more than 300 short films from over 40 countries.

Sam's film won 1st prize in the film category of the Movies and Stills competition at Basis gallery in Frankfurt, Germany. Sam visited Frankfurt to receive his prize at the award ceremony. Basis a non-profit arts space and gallery that exhibits international contemporary art. Stills of Sam's work will also be on view.

Sam's film will also be featured in the SpaceTime Student Exhibition at the SIGGRAPH 2008 conference in Los Angeles, California, August 11-15.

Luba Drozd, BFA 2006
Luba 's senior project, a digital animation entitled "Synth", won 1st prize in the stills category of the Movies and Stills competition at Basis gallery in Frankfurt, Germany. Additionally, her film will be screened at the exhibition, and she has been invited to Frankfurt for the awards ceremony. Basis a non-profit arts space and gallery that exhibits international contemporary art.

"Synth" was also screened at the 2007 Animex Student Animation Awards and the "Wanna See Our Shorts" 2006 New York Animation Festival. "Synth" depicts a transformation from the cold and mechanical into organic and warm over the duration of time, a process similar to that of observing a person's facade and looking inside past the physical representation.

Jong Jin Choi, MFA 2006
Jong Jin Choi has won the animation category at the ninth annual First Boards Awards in New York City. The First Boards Awards celebrates the international industry’s top emerging talent from a series of categories including director, editor, creative teams, composer, designer, animator and producer. The award show and party is an industry-backed event and takes place annually.

Jin's thesis, a short animation entitled "Air Show", was chosen as a finalist at the Stash Global Student Animation Awards 2006 and was also screened at 2006 MetroCAF, the annual NYC Metropolitan Area Computer Animation Festival.
Jonathan Lee, BFA 2007
Jonathan's senior capstone project, a digitally animated short entitled "Rice Ball Brawl", will be screened in February 2008 at the Animex International Festival of Animation & Computer Games place in Middlesbrough, England. http://www.animex.net/

William Caballero, BFA 2006
Will's short musical video art piece, entitled "Tango In Red", has been picked as Film of the Week on mtvU. This is the second time Will's work has been chosen for Film of the Week on mtvU. Earlier in 2007, Will's senior capstone project, a short film entitled "Without Sin", was selected as Film of the Week.

Will's senior capstone project is a short film with visual effects entitled "Without Sin", and was inspired by "The Sacrificial Dance", composed by Igor Stravinsky for the ballet "The Rite of Spring". Will re-orchestrated and performed a condensed version of a movement using electric violin, and keyboard.

"Without Sin", was screened at the 29th Annual Big Muddy Film Festival in Illinois, and was selected as Film of the Week on mtvU. Will also received First Place in the Fine Art Animation division of the SIGGRAPH 2006 Education Committee SPACE - Time Competition for "Without Sin".

Will's recent piece, "Themes and Variations for 10 Instruments and 1 Actress", was shown at Lincoln Center in April 2007.
Liz Van Verth, MFA 2007
Liz's thesis animation, Par Avion, was selected for the 2007 kidsfilmfest at the Brooklyn International Film Festival (BiFF). Kidsfilmfest was held at the Brooklyn Children's Museum in June 2007. Par Avion will also be screened at MetroCAF 2007 and the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

This fall, Liz begins her new role as Assistant Professor in the Animation department at Kansas City Art Institute.

Guy Barely is one of five exhibiting artists in the MetroCAF program to receive the honor of "Special Selection".

Guy's animated film, Cycle, has been screened at the 2007 Synch Digital Cinema Festival in Greece. It has also received the honor of "Special Selection" at MetroCAF 2007, the fifth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival.
Monica Paez, MFA 2006
With her husband and friends, Monica Paez (MFA 2006) has started an art magazine called Revista Asterisco (Asterisco Magazine). The magazine's creators will host a launch party at Magnan Projects on Friday, September 14, 2007 6-9 p.m.Nicolas Cuestas (current MFA student) is one of the artists whose work is featured the current issue.

Monica's work recently appeared, as part of the collective Tangrama, in a group exhibition at Taller 7, a Post No Bills project in Medellin, Colombia.

With the art magazine Revista Asterisco ( www.revistasterisco.org ), Monica participated in International Encounter, Medellin 07. From January to June 2007, the world of contemporary art, is in museums, parks, streets and public spaces around the city. http://encuentromedellin2007.com/mde07_ingles/

Monica was included with her husband Nicolas Consuegra in a Staff Show at the Brooklyn Museum, with a site-specific project.

In 2005, Monica's work appeared in the Annex Show, a two part group exhibition at the Annex Gallery in NYC.

In December 2004, Monica participated as part of the collective TANGRAMA in the San Juan Print Triennial in Puerto Rico. Along with a friend, Monica created a public art intervention in the city.

Monica is currently the Senior Print Designer at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
Riash Shahnawaz, MFA 2005
Riash Thesis Animation "INSTITUTE FOR THE DIGITALLY CHALLENGED" was selected by the Museum of the Moving Image as a regional finalist in the animation category in the Student Academy Awards.
Ji Young (Gina) Kim, MFA 2006
Gina was awarded a $5,000 IPAX Scholarship by Sony Pictures Imageworks. IPAX (Imageworks Professional Academic Excellence) is SPI's academic outreach program, and Pratt Institute is a founding charter member of IPAX.

Sony Pictures Imageworks Inc. is an Academy Award®-winning, state-of-the-art visual effects and character animation company dedicated to the art and artistry of digital production and character creation. Erik Rasmussen, BFA 2006
Erik's senior project, a dynamic abstract animation entitled Infinite Range, will be featured in the 2007 Red Stick International Animation Festival.

Jude Silva, BFA 2006
Jude's Senior Project has been selected for the Animex Student Animation Awards 2007 and the "Wanna See Our Shorts" 2006 New York Animation Festival.

Jude received an award for Best Character Animation for his animated senior project film, "The Turnaround" at 2006 MetroCAF, the fourth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival.

The event took place in the Haft Auditorium at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Maya Kopytman, MFA 1994
Maya has more than two decades of design experience, and is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in the design of interfaces for a variety of interactive media, from software to CD-ROM's, location-based applications, and websites, for which she has received numerous awards, among them the prestigious ‘Gold Pencil’ from the One Show Interactive. Her work was also appeared in many industry publications, including Graphis Interactive and Communications Arts.

From 1994 until 2006 she was a principal member of IconNicholson in New York, and a Senior Vice President since 2004. In 2006 Maya joined C&G Partners as an associate partner, heading the firm’s interactive design practice.

Maya is currently a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and is frequently called on to jury interactive design competitions such as the One Show Interactive Awards and the Webby Awards.

John Monos, BFA 1999
John, a Computer Graphics Supervisor at Sony Imageworks, visited Digital Arts at Pratt on October 5 to discuss his work on the film Superman Returns and his career path from Pratt to Sony Imageworks.

John has also worked on films such as Final Fantasy, Spider-Man, Matrix Reloaded, and Spider-Man 2.
Erica Wong, MFA 2005
Erica will be participating in a Chinese painting exhibition at the Confucius Plaza Community Room at 33 Bowery, New York, NY. There will be a reception on Saturday, August 19th at 1pm. The show is currently on view and will close on August 20th.
Joon Myung Park, MFA 2006
Joon's Thesis project, a short animation entitled "Snow White D'Avignon", was selected for 2006 MetroCAF, the fourth annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival. MetroCAF will take place this Fall at the Haft Auditorium at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

"Snow White D'Avignon" is a colorful and clever interpretation of the fairy tale Snow White, inspired by the formal influence of Pablo Picasso's famous painting, "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon".

Purva Mande, MFA 2006
Purva's thesis project "'i' the being" was screened at the Animation Block Party in July 2006.

"'i' the being" was also recently selected for the New York Digital Salon 2006, and will be screened at 2006 MetroCAF in September.

"'i' the being," appeared in FAT: Fusion of Art and Technology. The 2006 exhibition was held in the Conley Gallery in the Department of Art and Design at the California State University in Fresno.FAT was curated by Prof. Edward Gillum and feautured artists from across the nation in an intriguing display of the fusion of art and technology.

LiQin Tan
LiQin recently had a solo show at the Noho Gallery
(LavaBody series) in NYC and a joint two-person show
at the Noyes Museum of Art (Burl + 4 series). Both
were well received and were reviewed by TV stations (
NJN & Chinese TV of NYC) and local newspapers.

LiQin is the Assistant Professor & Head of the Animation Program in the Fine Arts Department at Rutgers University. Prof. Tan's work was featured in the 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery.
Hamid Rahmanian
MFA 1997

Hamid's feature film "Day Break" was featured in the Tribeca Film Festival. The film was also featured in the Indianapolis International Film Festival.

Synopsis:

In Iran, capital punishment is carried out according to Islamic law, which gives the family of the victim ownership of the offender’s life. Day Break - based on a compilation of true stories and shot inside Tehran's century-old prison - revolves around the imminent execution of Mansour, a man found guilty of murder. When the family of the victim repeatedly fails to show up on the appointed day, Mansour’s execution is postponed again and again. Stuck inside the purgatory of his own mind, he waits as time passes on without him, caught between life and death, retribution and forgiveness.

This acclaimed film has previously been screened at:

Leah Dixon, BFA 2003
In Spring 2005, Leah and Chris Harvey worked together as a collaborative group called Foolslight and performed live visuals with David Hykes and the Harmonic Choir at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.

Leah's work "TEMPLE: Time Tapestry" has been accepted to the SIGGRAPH 2006 Art Gallery.

In September 2005, "Beautiful Bridge," a digital painting by Dixon, was exhibited outside of the main branch of Brooklyn Public Library near Prospect Park, on the Eastern Parkway side.
Michael DiComo, MFA 1994
Michael has been with Industrial Light and Magic since
1996 where he started as a Technical Director on such
movies as 101 Dalmations, Jurassic Park 2: Lost World, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Star Wars: Episode III.

He served as Sequence Supervisor on Small Soldiers,
Star Wars: Episode 1, Star Wars: Episode 2, and as
C.G. Supervisor for The Hulk, Harry Potter 3, and
War of the Worlds.

Michael is currently the Digital Production Supervisor for the upcoming dragon adventure film entitled Eragon.

In addition to his MFA from Pratt, Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

Jonah works as a Technical Director with Digital Domain. His filmography includes:

Junghwan Sung has been appointed to the faculty as a Professor at the Soong Sil Unversity in Seoul, South Korea.
Jason Kaufman, BFA 2000

Jae Won Chung, MFA 2005
Jae Won's animated short thesis film, The Mirror, was screened at 2005 MetroCAF in New York City in September 2005.

"The Mirror" has also been screened at the 2005 Red Stick International Animation Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Zeitgeist International Film Festival in San Francisco, CA, and the Red Bank International Film Festival in Red Bank, NJ.
David Allen, BFA 2003

Bill Burg, MFA 2004
Bill Burg's animated short film, Hopeless Romantic, has been accepted for screening at the 2006 Animex Student Animation Awards, which will take place in the UK from February 6-10, 2006.For more information about the festival, visit: http://www.animex.net/

Bill’s thesis film, Hopeless Romantic, was featured in the 2005 SIGGRAPH Animation Theater. The animated short film was also included in the 2005 Rooftop Films Summer Festival Series in Brooklyn, NY. Hopeless Romantic received an Honorable Mention in the Student Projects Animation Competition & Exhibition (SPACE) category at 2004 SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, CA and was screened at the 2004 MetroCAF event, presented by ACM SIGGRAPH.
Kate Chapman, MFA, 2004
Kate's digital sculpture, entitled Falling Down, will be featured in the 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery.
Lori Hammond, MFA 2004
Lori has shown her work nationally & internationally, appearing in SIGGRAPH 2003 and at the first Beijing New Media Exhibition & Symposium 2004. Lori’s thesis, Looking Back in a Cityscape, was screened at the LA International Short Film Festival (LAFest), in September 2004.
Cesar Kuriyama, BFA 2004
Cesar has recently completed work on a film project at Curious Pictures.

Channel Frederator has put together the first original Cartoon Video Podcast. It's been around since the iPod video's came out and has a following of thousands. Cesar's short animation, Awkward, was included in a recent episode along with a short from Bill Plympton.

Jacquelyn Martino
Jacquelyn Martino has been selected to chair the 2008 SIGGRAPH Conference.

Jacquelyn is a distinguished alumna of Pratt's Digital Arts/Computer Graphics MFA program, and is currently an invited artist/researcher at MIT.

Jacquelyn served as an advisor for the 2005 SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, and as the Courses Chair for 2004 SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, CA. Also in 2004, Jacquelyn served on the Committee on Intellectual Property at MIT in Cambridge, MA.

Jacquelyn received the Director's Grant from the Council for the Arts, MIT in Cambridge, MA, recently exhibited her work at ARCADE in Brighton, England and also had a solo show at Precious in Cambridge, MA.

Kristen Palana, Class of 2002
Kristen’s mixed media animation thesis film, entitled Five O’Clock Shadows, debuted at the 2002 36th New York Exposition of Short Film and Video in New York City, NY.

Also in 2002, Five O’Clock Shadows was selected for screening at the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films in Palm Springs, CA.

Kristen’s thesis film was also screened at the 2003 4th DC Independent Film Festival in Washington DC, the 2003 Creative Alliance Film Festival in Baltimore, MD, and the 2003 1st Annual Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City, CA.
Jin Wan Park, MFA 1999
Known at CGIM for his SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater animation "BUG", Jin Wan is now a full time faculty member in Chung-Ang University in his home country, South Korea.

Jin Wan participated in the Sketch Program as well as the Faculty Submitted Student Work section of 2004 SIGGRAPH with "Mosaic for Stackable Objects" (Sketch Program) and 'Realtime Digital Art' (FSSW).

Jin Wan’s work has also been shown recently in seven gallery group exhibitions in South Korea and Singapore. His piece, "The Coinage Project II" was selected for the Epson Digital Color Imaging Contest, December 2004.
Brett Purmal, Class of 2002
Brett recently worked in New Zealand as an Animator for Weta Digital on Peter Jackson's feature film King Kong (2005).

Before leaving New York City to work in New Zealand with Weta Digital, Brett worked as a freelance animator with Psyop and Beetlejuice Productions. Brett also worked as an animator on the independent stop-motion feature, A Buck's Worth, under the direction of Tatia Rosenthal, which has recently been accepted into the Sundance Film Festival.
Alex Scott, Class of 2001
With the Deja Food group, Alex has completed animations for the Science Channel program “100 Greatest Discoveries”, airing Wednesday evenings at 8pm.

Alex is currently working as a full time 3D animator for Interface Media Group (www.interfacevideo.com) in Washington, D.C.
Seval Dulgeroglu Yavuz, MFA, MS, Ph.D.
In October 2004, Seval was appointed as the chair of the newly established Graphic Design department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Mustafa Kemal University in Hatay, Turkey. She is currently in the process of developing departmental curriculum and hiring new faculty members.
